Weaver, Wiesser & Moody Victorious On Opening Night

Friday Night the Farmer City Raceway kicked off its 2019 points season. On a chilly but sunny evening the pit area buzzed with sound of cars getting ready to start their campaign for the 2019 track championship in their respective division. A week off the tracks huge Illini 100 weekend the track got into the weekly grind that will end in a track championship for that one driver who endures the long summer stretch.

Those on hand Friday night included several past track champions and top points finishers from last season. Last years track champion Kevin Weaver was in the pit area along with past modified track champions Jeffery Ledford and Jay Ledford. The track was in great condition as drivers competed in hot laps and qualifying.

In Pro Late Model qualifying Logan Moody set the pace with a lap of 13.824 seconds. In Modified qualifying Randy Shuman, the driver out of Danville, IL led the way with a lap of 14.260 seconds. Wrapping up qualifying Allen Wiesser put down the fastest lap in Late Model qualifying with a lap of 12.888 seconds.

Opening ceremonies was followed up by some heat race action. Logan Moody took his front row starting spot to his advantage as he drove away from the field to pick up the heat win in the Pro Late division.

Starting on the outside front row of the Modified heat race Allen Wiesser grabbed the lead early and never looked back. Weisser held off fast qualifier Randy Shuman for the heat race victory.

In the final heat of the night things started out with a bang as on the opening lap Allen Wiesser who was doing double duty got sideways and ended up on his lid after contact with Watseka, IL driver Jay Morris. Allen was ok but ended his night in the Late Model division. Jason Feger from Bloomington, IL took the lead on the opening lap and won the lone heat race for the Late Models.

This left 3 feature events to close out the first week of racing at Farmer City Speedway. First up was the Pro Late Model division. After his win last Friday night during the Illini 100 weekend all eyes were on the pole sitter Logan Moody. Logan would jump out front and put it on cruise control as he was the class of the field. His only real challenge came from Chad Ziegler who finished runner up. If not for a broken drive train last Saturday night at Farmer City Logan would be undefeated at the Raceway so far in 2019. Chris Dick rounded out the top 3. In post race interview Logan Moody said "This was a redemption night after breaking something in rear end last Saturday. It feels good to get the season started off with a win."

In Modified action Allen Wiesser took the lead and never looked back. Randy Shuman finished second and was the closed challenge for Wiesser. There was a moment of concern halfway through the feature as Mike Learman got into the turn 3 tire barrier and ended up on his lid. Mike walked away and was ok but red flagged the event for a few minutes. Former track champ Jay Ledford finished out the top 3. Allen said in post race interview "We got the car going good, the track is in good shape with all the rain we have got lately." When asked about his late model he said "I think it is just cosmetic damage mainly, we will thrash and get it ready for Peoria tomorrow. I have to thank my dad and Chris Osborne for the opportunity to drive these cars."

Late Models closed out the night with their 25 lap main event. Jason Feger and Kevin Weaver started on the front row and was the class of the field Friday night. Kevin Weaver got the early race lead and was able to keep a charging Jason Feger behind him to pick up the opening night win. It was like deja vu as Kevin picked up the season opener last year as well. Bloomington, IL driver Donny Walden finished 3rd. Kevin said "Feels good to come out and win after finishing top 10 in the big show last weekend. We got the rust knocked off me and get the car going in the right direction. Got to give a shoutout to Allen Stipp and his dad for helping it out with a truck to pull the trailer tonight." When asked Kevin told us he will be off to Peoria Saturday for the Chuck Hamilton Memorial.
